Atle Kittang (March 20, 1941 – June 1, 2013) was a Norwegian literary scholar and professor of general literary studies at the University of Bergen. He graduated from Firda public secondary school in 1960, studied German and French at the University of Bergen, earning his mag.art. in 1966. He obtained a doctorate in 1973 on a thesis about French poet Arthur Rimbaud. Kittang served as an associate professor and later became the first professor of literary studies at the university in 1974. He authored several books and anthologies, notably focusing on Knut Hamsun and Sigmund Freud.
