He graduated with a degree in psychology from the University of Bergen in 1982 and is a certified cognitive therapy supervisor. He served as the chief of Psychiatry in Vestfold from 2001 to 2014 and now works as a Special Advisor at the hospital. Additionally, Repål is the editor of the Journal of Cognitive Therapy and has contributed chapters to various academic books and articles in several journals.
