Arne Frithjof Nordøy (1933–2020) was a Norwegian physician and professor instrumental in establishing the University of Tromsø. He earned his medical degree in 1957 and completed his doctorate in thrombosis research in 1965. In 1971, he became the first dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at UiT and became a professor of internal medicine in 1972. Nordøy contributed significantly to research on lipids and thrombosis, publishing around 140 scientific articles, and he played a crucial role in recruiting key personnel to the university and hospital.
