Arild Hjulstad Østbye, known as the Bymark murderer, was a Norwegian killer and torturer who worked for the Rinnan gang during World War II. Born on September 23, 1917, he had a criminal background, including attempted rape and violence, leading him to be an important figure for Henry Rinnan. After joining the German occupation authorities in 1942, Østbye participated in the gang's torture of prisoners and was involved in the murders of fellow gang members. He infamously killed 22-year-old Ruth Haarstad on August 22, 1943, before being arrested and reportedly executed by German authorities on September 9, 1943.
