Rittenhouse began diving at age seven and trained under Wenbo Chen. She competed for the USC Trojans during her studies at the University of Southern California. Notably, she participated in the 2007 World Championships, achieving a top ten finish, and earned a silver medal in synchronized diving at the 2007 Pan American Games with partner Kelci Bryant, also competing at the 2008 Olympics.
