Arend ten Oever was a Dutch politician from the CDA and an advocate for the Low Saxon language. He served in the municipal council of Ommen from 1974, later becoming the CDA faction leader in 1978, and was a councilor from 1986. He was appointed mayor of Nijverdal in 1993 and, after the municipality was dissolved in 2001, became the mayor of Ommen. He actively worked for political recognition of Low Saxon and appeared in media programs advocating for its recognition before passing away in 2012 at age 68.
