Aparna Mahanta (August 20, 1946 - January 26, 2022) was an Assamese feminist writer, educator, and researcher. She was the first Assamese woman to earn a doctorate in English literature. Born in Shivsagar, she began her schooling in Shillong and completed her Ph.D. at Dibrugarh University in 1982. As a professor in the English department at Dibrugarh University, she established a 'Women’s Education Centre'. Mahanta played a significant role in women's empowerment initiatives in Assam during the 1980s and 1990s and was the editor of the first Assamese women's magazine 'Ghor Jeuti'.
