Van Assche became the Dutch all-around champion in 2005, 2006, 2009, and 2011, and he earned national titles on rings in 2010, 2011, and 2012 and on the pommel horse in 2010. He was a reserve member of the Dutch team that qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics but did not compete. He retired from gymnastics in November 2018.
