He received the Victoria Cross for exceptional bravery in the face of enemy action, marking him as one of the highest honors in the British military. Miers, often referred to by his nicknames 'Crap Miers' and 'Gamp', was also involved in controversial incidents during the war, including allegations of war crimes while commanding HMS Torbay.
