Sir Anthony James Leggett, born on March 26, 1938, in London, is a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Professor of Physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is renowned for his pioneering work in low-temperature physics, particularly in understanding superfluidity, for which he received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2003. Leggett contributed theoretical insights into ordinary and superfluid helium, as well as strongly coupled superfluids. He has influenced quantum mechanics research and is a member of various prestigious scientific societies.
