Väinö Antero Karumaa, born on June 30, 1952, in Hämeenlinna, is a retired Finnish rear admiral. He served as an aide to President Martti Ahtisaari and held the position of Chief of Personnel of the Finnish Defence Forces. Educated at the Navy Academy in 1977 and the National Defence University in 1987, his military career included roles in various navy commands and administration. He was appointed captain in 1989, commodore in 1999, and rear admiral in 2009. In 2014, he was appointed secretary of the Order of the White Rose of Finland and the Order of the Lion of Finland.
