Anne-Marie Vurpas was a French linguist and dialectologist known for her research on Franco-Provençal dialects in and around Lyon and Beaujolais. She studied Classical Philology and contributed to the linguistic and ethnographic atlas of Lyon. Her work on regional French, patois, language and literature history, and toponymy in southeastern France is foundational to Franco-Provençal linguistics. Born on August 2, 1923, and passing away on January 30, 2017, Vurpas made significant contributions to the study of regional languages.
