Anne Jannes Elsinga was a Dutch police officer during World War II, who served as the head of special investigations in Groningen and assisted the Sicherheitsdienst. A known antisemite, he hunted Jews and resistance members. After discovering a resistance group in Bedum, he became a target for assassination, executed by Reint Dijkema on December 31, 1943. His death triggered severe reprisals against various individuals involved in the resistance. Elsinga was eventually buried in Ysselsteyn and is remembered for his role in the oppressive regime during the war.
