Anna Valentynivna Yelskaya, born on October 15, 1940, in Stalino, is a prominent molecular biologist, holding a Doctorate in Biological Sciences (1975) and a professorship (1986). She became an academician in 1992, after serving as a corresponding member since 1988 at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Yelskaya is also a member of the International Academy of Science, Industry, Education and Arts in the USA since 1996. She leads the Department of Mechanisms of Genetic Information Translation at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the NAS of Ukraine and has received numerous awards for her contributions to science.
