Anna-Lisa Almqvist (1903–1993) was a Swedish writer known for her children's and young adult literature, particularly the Annika series which debuted in 1962. With a passion for art, she studied at an art school in Munich and also ran a café in Stockholm. Almqvist published numerous animal-themed books, and her first work, inspired by a circus horse, laid the foundation for her popular stories about girls and horses. Her works reflect Swedish culture from the 1960s and 1970s and have been translated into Finnish, gaining popularity in that region.
