Ann Patricia Dowling (born July 15, 1952) is a British mechanical engineer known for her research in combustion, acoustics, vibrations, low emissions, and noise reduction in vehicles and aircraft. She is a Deputy Vice-Chancellor and a Professor of Mechanical Engineering, having served as Head of the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge from 2009 to 2014, where she was the first woman to be appointed professor in 1993. Dowling is also the President of the Royal Academy of Engineering and its first female leader.
