She was the wife of singer Manolo Escobar, whom she married in 1959 after meeting him as a young German tourist. They adopted a daughter, Vanessa, in 1977, to whom Escobar dedicated some of his famous songs. After the death of her husband in 2013, Anita lived as a widow until her own death due to renal failure at the age of 80.
