Andries Pieter Buijs was a Dutch politician born on April 3, 1925, in Katwijk aan Zee. He served as a mayor for the ARP and later the CDA political parties. Buijs entered the municipal council of Zaandam in 1964 and became an alderman immediately. He was the mayor of Urk from 1974 until April 1, 1989. After his retirement, he continued to reside in the municipality. Buijs passed away at the age of 89 on November 16, 2014.
