He has held prominent positions including Director of Music at St James's Church and Assistant Master of Music at St Albans Cathedral. Parnell founded the St Albans Cathedral Girls' Choir and conducted the St Albans Symphony Orchestra. He is a prolific composer with works performed internationally and currently directs multiple choirs while maintaining a freelance music career.
