André Poisson was a French monk, born as Étienne Poisson on February 28, 1923, near Angers, France. He joined the Grande Chartreuse in 1946, taking the name André, and became a priest in 1954. From 1967 to 1997, he served as Prior of the Grande Chartreuse and General Minister of the Carthusian Order. During his leadership, he adapted the order's statutes after the Second Vatican Council and oversaw the establishment of the first Carthusian monasteries outside Europe. He retired in 1997 and later had roles in monasteries in Vermont, USA, and returned to Grande Chartreuse until his death on April 20, 2005.
