Alpheus Lee Ellis was an influential American banker and philanthropist born in Elba, Alabama, in 1906. After attending Alabama Polytechnic Institute, he moved to Florida, where he founded Ellis Bank & Trust Company and expanded it to 75 branches. He served as president of the Florida Bankers Association and was a director at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. In 1983, he sold his bank for substantial assets and was recognized posthumously for his philanthropy, particularly within the Children's Home Society of Florida, which honored him shortly before his death in 1995.
