Notable for his coverage of major historical events such as D-Day and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Jackson was instrumental in radio journalism. He also announced Neil Armstrong's lunar landing during Apollo 11. After retiring in 1975, he continued to work in radio until his death on April 26, 1976, following gall bladder surgery.
