She served as the first Director of Flora Programs at the Australian Biological Resources Study. In 1987, she became the Deputy Director of the International Plant Genetic Resources Institute under the United Nations FAO. Her exceptional contributions to botany and plant resource management led to her receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2009.
