Alga Soligo Malfatti was an Italian sea captain, born on January 18, 1951, in Somma Lombardo. She became a trailblazer by being the first woman to serve as a deck officer on an Italian merchant ship. Despite facing societal barriers, she successfully obtained her first embarkation as a trainee in 1971. Over her career, she ascended through the ranks to become Captain in 1978. Tragically, she lost her life in a shipwreck on January 14, 1984, aboard the M/N Tito Campanella, which sank in the Bay of Biscay.
