Alfred Baur was the founder of Chirophonetics. After training as a mechanical engineer, he served in World War II, where he was captured by Soviet forces. Upon his release, he studied Germanistics, history, and philosophy, and was introduced to Anthroposophy. He later worked as a remedial educator and speech therapist. Since 1957, he ran a practice in logopedics and special education with his wife, Ilse Baur, an anthroposophical doctor. In 1972, he developed the fundamentals of Chirophonetics and began offering regular courses in this field from 1976.
