Alexandru Monciu-Sudinski, born on July 13, 1944, in Turnu Măgurele, Romania, is a Romanian-born author, philosopher, journalist, translator, screenwriter, and human rights advocate residing in Sweden. After attempts to enter acting and directing school, he studied philosophy at the University of Bucharest, graduating in 1972. His first book was withdrawn from stores for its controversial content. In 1978, he began a hunger strike to draw attention to human rights abuses in Romania, leading to his eventual defection to Sweden, where he reunited with his wife and had five children.
