Alexander Valeryevich Kobak is a historian and public figure from St. Petersburg, born on December 17, 1952, in Leningrad. He has been the director of the D.S. Likhachev Foundation since 2001 and chair of the Peter the Great Institute Council since 2011. He has served as the chair of the St. Petersburg Union of Local Historians since 2008. Kobak is also a member of the Heritage Preservation Council of St. Petersburg and the board of the Joseph Brodsky Literary Museum Foundation, and he won the Antsiferov Prize in 1996. He has authored various works on local history and cultural issues.
