Alexander Haig (December 2, 1924 - February 20, 2010) was a former American politician and military officer. He served as Secretary of State from January 22, 1981, to July 5, 1982, under President Ronald Reagan. Haig was a military aide to Henry Kissinger during the Nixon administration and commander of NATO forces from 1974 to 1979. He was involved in World War II and the Korean War, and played a significant role during the Watergate scandal. Known for his controversial statements and action during Reagan's presidency, he also ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 1988.
