Alemitu Bekele Degfa is an Ethiopian-born Turkish athlete, specializing in middle and long-distance running. Since 1998, she has represented Turkey in international competitions. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, she finished 7th in the 5000m final. Degfa became the European Indoor Champion in 3000m in 2009 in Turin and followed that by winning the 5000m title in Barcelona in 2010. She set a new European indoor record for 5km in Stockholm, finishing in 14:46.44, breaking the previous record held by Gabriela Szabo for 11 years.
