He was the first Scientific Director of the Anthony Nolan Trust's specialized center for blood cancer research in London, UK. Madrigal serves as a Professor and Hematology Consultant at the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust, University College London. He was the President of the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) from 2010 to 2014.
