Alberta Jones Seaton was a pioneering African-American zoologist, born on December 24, 1924, in Houston. She earned a doctorate in zoology in Belgium, becoming one of the first African-American women to do so in 1949. Seaton contributed to African independence movements alongside her husband, Earle Seaton, an international lawyer. Her academic focus was on embryology, researching various species' eggs. Alberta became a professor of biology at Texas Southern University and later held significant roles there, including chair of the Faculty Assembly. She passed away in Houston on April 4, 2014.
