He has served as the scientific director of the joint physics unit at the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) in Orsay since 1995. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2007 for his remarkable contributions to the discovery of giant magnetoresistance (GMR), which revolutionized technologies for reading information stored on hard drives. His work in nanoscience has significantly impacted the field, and he shared the Nobel Prize with German physicist Peter Grünberg for their achievements in the same research area.
