Alaric J. 'Ric' Saltzman is a fictional character from The Vampire Diaries. He is a history teacher at Mystic Falls High School and initially comes to the town to kill Damon Salvatore, believing him responsible for the death of his wife, Isobel Fleming. Alaric later becomes close friends with Damon. He possesses a ring given to him by Isobel that brings him back to life when killed by supernatural means. Alaric also had a romantic relationship with Jenna Summers and later acted as a guardian for Elena and Jeremy Gilbert.
