Alan Davies is a British professor emeritus of mathematics at the University of Hertfordshire, with a distinguished academic career. He earned a first class honours degree (1968) and later degrees in structural engineering and numerical computation. His teaching focuses on applied mathematics, especially for non-math majors. He has also been involved in research on numerical computation, and he co-authored a handbook of mathematical formulae. After retiring in 2006, he engaged in outreach activities, particularly masterclasses in mathematics with the Royal Institution.
