Alan Bennett is an English actor, author, playwright, and screenwriter born on May 9, 1934, in Leeds. He studied history at Oxford University and performed with the Oxford Revue. Bennett initially worked as a teacher and researcher in medieval history before gaining fame for his collaboration with Dudley Moore, Jonathan Miller, and Peter Cook in the satirical play 'Beyond the Fringe,' which was well-received at the Edinburgh Festival in 1960. He later shifted focus to writing seriously, completing his first play, 'Forty Years,' which premiered in 1968.
