Akira Ōta (July 21, 1917 - December 31, 2015) was a Japanese scholar of English and linguistics, and a professor emeritus at Tokyo University of Education. Born in Yokosuka, Kanagawa, he was active in research from the 1950s onwards. His work was significantly influenced by American structuralism and generative grammar, contributing to the fields of linguistics and language studies. Ōta made notable contributions during a period of dynamic growth in linguistic theory.
