Akira Ōta is a former Japanese freestyle wrestler born on April 8, 1957, in Akita City, Japan. He studied at the Waseda University Faculty of Sports. Ōta competed in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics in the 90 kg category, where he won a silver medal, and he repeated this accomplishment at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He also participated in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics but did not advance past the group stage in the same weight category.
