He made his film debut in 1942 and appeared in over ten films, primarily known for his work as a photographer. Hylén was married twice and had one child, Steve Hylén, who became an Oscar-winning cinematographer. He passed away on his 39th birthday, March 26, 1967. He is buried at Skogskyrkogården in Stockholm.
