He is considered one of the most prominent figures in Indian classical music. While he is particularly skilled in the Patiala gharana, he also represents the singing styles of Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan and Ustad Barkat Ali Khan. Additionally, he has command over other major Indian classical gharanas, including Indore, Delhi, Jaipur, Gwalior, Agra, Kirana, Rampur, and even Carnatic music from Southern India.
