Ajjamada Boppayya Devayya, known as 'Wings of Fire', was a distinguished Squadron Leader in the Indian Air Force. He is the only IAF officer to be posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra (MVC), the second highest wartime gallantry award, during the 1965 India-Pakistan War. Devayya was involved in a strike mission against the Sargodha airbase when he encountered enemy aircraft. He successfully shot down one but his aircraft was damaged, and he went missing, presumed dead in Pakistani territory. He received the MVC posthumously in 1988.
