With educational qualifications including GCE O/L and A/L and a Diploma in Politics, he has served as a provincial councilor and a Member of Parliament. His political journey includes unsuccessful candidacies in the 2001 and 2015 parliamentary elections, but he achieved success in the 2020 elections representing the Sri Lanka People's Freedom Alliance from the Hambantota District.
