Aino Thoen (1913-2010) was an Estonian writer born in Tallinn as the daughter of an industrialist. She studied at Hans Kubu private school and Tallinn Girls' Commercial Gymnasium. From 1932 to 1941, she worked as an accountant at her father's company. After fleeing to Germany in 1944, she spent time in refugee camps before moving to Canada. Thoen's notable works include the debut novel "Võlaraamat," which depicts the struggles during World War II, and "Igaviku veskid," which explores life in German-occupied Tallinn.
