Aija Priedīte, born Aija Janelsiņa on July 3, 1942, in Riga, is a Latvian literary scholar and linguist. She fled with her parents to Germany in 1944 and later moved to Sweden in 1946. Priedīte graduated from the South Stockholm Girls' Gymnasium in 1961 and from Stockholm University in 1980. She taught at Stockholm University (1980-1994), Münster University (1989-1990), and Hamburg University (1990-1994). In 1994, she returned to Latvia and led the State Agency for the Acquisition of the Latvian Language. She has published works in both Latvian and foreign journals and received the Order of the Three Stars, Fourth Class, in 2002.
