He has a Master's degree from Monash University and has held various positions within the Maldivian Foreign Ministry since 1986. Notable roles include Deputy High Commissioner to the UK and High Commissioner to Bangladesh. He chaired the Alliance of Small Island States during his UN tenure, contributing to the Paris Agreement. Post-UN, he served as Foreign Secretary and has worked with the Organization of the Islamic Conference.
