He was born on February 15, 1921, in Kayseri, Turkey, and passed away on December 7, 2009. Eringen studied at Istanbul Technical University and obtained his Ph.D. in applied mechanics from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1948. He held professorships at several prominent universities, including Princeton University and Purdue University, and received numerous awards throughout his career.
