Ada E. Yonath, born on June 22, 1939, is an Israeli crystallographer known for her pioneering research on the structure of ribosomes. She currently serves as the director of the Helen and Milton A. Kimmelman Center for Biomolecular Structure and Assembly at the Weizmann Institute of Science. In 2009, Yonath, along with Venkatraman Ramakrishnan and Thomas A. Steitz, received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for their studies on ribosome structure and function. She was the first Israeli woman and the first woman from the Middle East to win a Nobel Prize in sciences.
