Abhijit Banerjee is an American economist of Indian origin, born on February 21, 1961. He is currently the Ford Foundation International Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Banerjee is a co-founder of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab, alongside economists Esther Duflo and Sendhil Mullainathan. The lab is focused on research and innovation in poverty alleviation. He has held various prominent roles including president of the Office of Research for Development Economics and a fellow at several research institutions.
