Abeti Masikini, born Elisabeth Finant on 9 November 1954 in Kisangani, was a renowned Congolese singer, composer, and philanthropist, recognized as the 'Queen of Soukous'. Her impactful nearly thirty-year career made her a vital figure in African music, and she was celebrated for promoting gender equality and modernizing Congolese music. Abeti led her own band, Les Redoutables, which was instrumental in launching other female artists. Her debut album, released in 1973, marked the beginning of her celebrated performances across Europe and the US. She passed away from cancer on 28 September 1994.
