Al-Haj Abdul Rahaman Mohamed Thassim, OBE (1909-1963), was a notable Ceylonese businessman, philanthropist, and politician, known for being the longest-serving mayor of Galle. He was instrumental in establishing a successful coconut and rubber mill in Galle, which became one of the largest producers in Sri Lanka. Thassim contributed significantly to public health by founding the Thassim Chest Clinic and was recognized for his services with prestigious honors. His legacy continues with A. R. M. Thassim College named in his honor.
