Major General Avinash Kesheo Sarwate served in the Indian Army, commissioned into the Kumaon Regiment as a second lieutenant in 1964. He commanded various battalions, including the 5th Battalion, and held significant positions such as General Officer Commanding of the 15th Infantry Division and Assistant Director General of Military Training. Before retirement, he was the Commandant of the Services Selection Board (South). Sarwate was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2003 for his distinguished service.
